It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and the past few days have really started to feel like it, as Mariah Carey brought her hugely successful Christmas Tour over to the UK for the second time. Bringing her entire team over for a spectacular production, Mariah made room to have London based Gospel choir Uplifted Voices as her backing choir for the second year in a row.
Joining Mariah for all three of her UK Tour dates, in Nottingham, Leeds & London, we caught up with them backstage at The O2 on the the last UK Tour date. You can catch some of the fun on our Facebook and Instagram pages!
The choir were in high spirits as they got ready for performance. Singing along to popular Gospel hits from Todd Dulaney to Donald Lawrence, as they prepared, the choir shared how excited and blessed they felt to be performing with Mariah once again.
Meanwhile, a DJ entertained the 20,000 guests as they took their seats. You could feel the excitement in the air as they anticipated the start of the show. Once again, Mariah did not disappoint. Mariah was in great voice as she belted out songs from her Christmas albums. Helping her to bring her hits to life were her full US band led by Daniel Moore on piano, her phenomenal background vocalists, skilled dancers and she even had her twins Roc & Roe join her on stage.
The show was a full-on winter wonderland production, complete with a Christmas tree, snow and Santa! Mariah performed songs from her two Christmas albums, and also ‘The Distance’, a new song from her latest album “Caution”.
Uplifted Voices performed on four songs throughout the night. They first took to the stage in angelic white robes to join Carey’s longtime backing vocalist, singer-songwriter Trey Lorenz. Taking the audience to Church, he belted out ‘Jesus, O What A Wonderful Child’ as the choir backed him with high energy choreography and strong vocals. Uplifted Voices remained on stage as Mariah Carey returned to sing ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Joy To The World’.
After belting out more popular Christmas songs and hits including ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Hero’, the show came to a close with Carey returning to the stage with the entire cast for an encore. Performing her biggest hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, Uplifted Voices returned to the stage for the final time, dressed in red choir robes, singing, clapping and dancing to end the spectacular show.
